Out with the old APE, time for the installer but...

I have done upgrades in the past for APE’s but when I do the upgrade I would move all devices to the PPE generally small enterprise networks.

I am wondering what would happen in this scenario:

So, PPE is updated with newest version 12.1 and has 9000 elements the APE is running something like 11.0.1 and has 4000 elements. It seems allot easier to delete the APE and reconfigure the APE with the installer that will come with all compatible modules that are running on the PPE.

So the question is what happens to the 4000 elements if I delete the APE and use the installer? will they just sit on the PPE until the APE is reinstated?

To limit downtime, I would recommend moving those nodes to the primary Orion server while the APE is being rebuilt. Once the rebuild is complete, simply move those back to the APE. That will reduce downtime for monitoring of those nodes. If it helps you to keep track of which nodes were on which polling engine, I generally like to create a Custom Property for that purpose.

Thanks guys, I ended up using the smart bundle installer on APE to match the PPE. That's a smart idea grouping them by custom properties , yea I'll push them over to the primary next time and build the APE. These days the lightweight installers are the business, but only a matter of time until a new client comes along on NPM10. Something
