Monitor Folder growth on Compellent NAS

Good day comrades!

So at the subject says, I'm trying to track the growth of folders on a NAS.

From what I can tell, the Compellent tracks volume growth but not folder growth. We have a single volume with multiple folders for different units. What wanna to just track the growth of those root folders and then come with a strategy to manage that.

Any ideas on whether or not Solar can do that or application at least? Thank you.

I am looking into that and I am also in the process of trying to demo a product called SpaceObServer that sounds like it can do what I need and provide a lot more analytical information. However, that ain't free!

Yeah, the 10-statistic limit is a bear, but I get why they need to keep it limited (licensing by component). What I would do then is have something running outside of SolarWinds (the same PowerShell script?) that examines the folders, stores the size from one sample to the next, and decides if there are any growing faster than they should be and then make that information available to a SAM component. Something like another PowerShell script that scoops up that information and returns an up/down exit status with a message indicating which folders are in pain.

Initially I did think that, wrote the script and everything in Powershell and was looking at implementing it SAM. But the problem is that it about 100 root folders that need to monitor and from what I could tell, I would need to do each one individually.

While it is possible, it isn't practical.

If there is an easier way that you know of, I'd happily try it!
