Config backup questions

Hello,

I have a few questions related to the Config Management window and backup jobs:

1. In the Config Management window, is the purpose of "Last action date" to indicate when the last change was made?

2. Is there a way to show the last backup date without having to expand the info on the left? It would be more useful if there was a column that showed the last date a device was backed up. Right now, the only way I know of is to expend the little "sideways triangle" on the left.

3. I'm seeing some devices that aren't getting backed up (even though the backup job has all 70 devices listed - all Cisco) and they can be backed up manually no problem. Is there a reason why it's not running on some devices? In the backup job, I only have Running checked (I do not have "Only save configs that have changed" checked).

"Last action date" is the date that you took a manual backup on those devices.

Apart from expanding on the left pane, you can as well check the actual folders where the config file is backed up

*Explore if there are any Reports to pull this information, i haven't checked it though.

Errors are visible on the same view which you have pasted, just add 'Error details' field onto that view - you should be able to view the error

1. You can check the Backup status & Last backup run time details of your devices in Transfer status Tab.

2. Any error receiving for non-backup devices?

Hello,

Thanks for that info. I went to the Transfer Status page and did see a number of devices whose backups were weeks old. I ran them manually and they completed fine. I'm not sure why the backup job didn't run early this morning.

Were would I go to see any error messages?

Run a manual backup and check if backup is successful, as i said "Error details" field on same view, scroll your view to the right, it might already be there.

Vinay, thanks for that info. I was able to find a report to do exactly what I needed. Here's what I did:

In the to row of Solarwinds, click Reports | All Reports

In the All Reports page, in the search box near the upper right-hand corner, enter "config" (without quotes) and press ENTER.

You will see a list of reports with the word "config" in them. Look for the one titled "Backup status of running config". Click that hyperlink. This will display the status of all backups and allows you to export to Excel.

I checked and I do see I already had the Error Details field showing, but didn't see any issues there. I have this set to run at 1am each day, so I'll keep an eye on it for a few days.
