User Experience for external website. Is it possible?

Hi,

I am trying to get the user experience to work. What we would like to do pretty much is to measure user experience on any external website we choose. In other words we are fighting against "slow Internet connection" statements. If we have something solid in hand it would be definitely nice, because so far it has been "I think it is slow" vs "It seems ok to me" kinda fight.

I have tried to configure the http user experience monitor using the template I have found on SolarWinds, but it asks for credentials. This is the kind of information I will not have if we want to measure it against external servers.

Any idea or help (even if you would do it completely different way let me know please)?

I monitor external web site with the APM component HTTP monitor. That provides me with response times for HTTP requests to the server. I monitor public server that accepts anonymous connections, therefore APM credentials are set to <NONE>. The web site is defined as external node in NPM and I also had to configure proxy.

If the web site does not need a user name and password for access, then do not set any credentials in the component monitor.

You only need to specify credentials if the web site requires a user name and password.

Monitoring the Corporate Home Page

We need to add the corporate web server to the Orion database as an external node, and then assign the HTTP template to the web server.

Log on to the Orion APM Web Console.
Click APPLICATIONS if not already selected.
Add the corporate web server to the Orion database as an external node.
1. Click Add a Node.
2. Type the hostname or IP address of the corporate web server.
3. Check the External check box and then click NEXT.
Assign the HTTP template to the corporate web server node.
1. Select Web Server in the Show only list.
2. Select HTTP.
3. Select Inherit credentials from template and then click Test.
4. If the test fails, see Troubleshooting the HTTP Template.
5. Click NEXT.
6. Click OK, ADD NODE.

Hi,

Thanks for the great replies. This is the way I have added it before and I got a bit weird error. Please see the screenshots below.

Now it is reporting another dll to be missing. Any ideas? Re-install APM maybe?

Have you run an anti-virus scan?

I suspect you have a virus or some other malware on that server that is hijacking the web site requests. These calls to seemingly random DLL files in the Windows TEMP folder are highly suspicious.

Rather than spend 2 hours trying to clean the virus/malware from the system, I would spend the 2 hours to reformat the Windows server and reinstall Orion APM.

If you do decide to reinstall Orion APM on a clean operating system, please install/run the License Manager program to deactivate your Orion APM license first. If you skip this step, you may have to call customer service to re-activate your license (because our licensing servers will still think Orion APM is in use).

Is your database on the same server also?
