SAM Backup/Restore Procedures

Is there a prescribed methodology for doign backup and restore of all teh settings, forms and customizations for SAM?

I've not checked in depth through every page of the manual, but thought to ask here to see if there were documented procedures commonly used and tested :-)

The instructions are likely outdated and don't reflect changes made to the Database Manager in NPM 10.4, SAM 5.2 and newer releases. For newer releases you will need to download and install the SQL Management Studio and follow the steps outlined in this document.

I discerened in the manuals, that the proscribed methodology is to use the database manager... page 657 of the manual explicitly states HOW to do Backups and on the next page, how to do restores...

So... is it because I am still in the trial phase that I am unable to follow the very explicit and simple instructions to select the Solarwinds database , right click and select Backup database? (the only options I get are Database Details, New Query and Refresh)???

I to am new to the SAM 5.5 product and have the same issue. I do not see an option for backup. I want to update to the 6.0 but cannot get past the backup step.

Thanks for any help on this.

Yes. I know Alterego would love to embarrass me as always by pointing out my document's shortcomings; however, I did update and document your precise dilemma about two days ago. I cannot remember exactly where it is but it exists in the NEW PDF around page 23ish. Do a search in the PDF, I know it's in there.

and successfully backed up the SQL database files (there were 3 different databases that looked like they were part of the SolarWinds group)

Just to note, only one of the three databases listed are for Orion. That one being "SolarWindsOrion". The other two are related to SQL's built-in Reporting Services.
