What Drives A Node To Be Listed Under An Application?

I am working through my nodes, particularly in IIS and noticed I have Windows servers listed under Applications, IIS without the ability to add AppInsights for IIS.  What drives the servers (nodes) listed under IIS and how/where can that be customized?
