APM to get server manufacturer and model?

I am not sure if this post should be under Orion NPM or APM but since it is kind of geared to APM I will post it here.

Has anyone developed an APM or script which can pull a server's Manufacturer and model using WMI? The currect details in the Nodes database doesn't tell me if it is a Dell or HP or whatever. I know I can get this level of information from WMI.

I looked at using the WMI portion of APM but it is limited to performance counters, etc.

I just wanted to see if anyone has developed a method before I venture out and build a script.....

I would think the SystemOID would give the manufacrurer and another poller constructed with the UnDP would give you the model number. Would that work for you?

I just did a walk on the MIB against one of my servers and could not find any OID that contained the Manufacturer or model.

Look at Win32_ComputerSystem. Here's a (slightly modified) script from Scriptomatic that shows the Manufacturer and Model number:

I have a similar query - I'm wondering if theres a way to display this information on the Node Details pages similarly to the way UNDP does?

Theres a lot more info in WMI these days than SNMP - APM is great for graphs, checking if something is running or not etc but I havn't yet found an easy to display the result of a WMI query on a page anywhere is the result was text as opposed to a number i can graph. Eg Desktop PC agents that support WMI often have a wealth of info on the hardware that doesn't appear in SNMP (where I would normally pull this from using UNDP).

Any ideas?

I am almost there.... I snagged a WMI script to get the mfg, model and serial from WMI and am posting it to the node CP's using SQL agent. I then developed a report to display this information.

As so as I can I will try to write a process to define the steps to share.

Sounds great - I'd love to get that guy into a custom resource or through a report to display WMI data on the Node Details page.
