XML 3rd party application Need help

The software guys here at my shop need for me to monitor the response from an web application They gave me the code in XML format. Does any one know how do I get it imported into APM to execute and run? or do I need to turn it into a batch file. Any feed back is appreciated.

Is what they provided you a .apm_template file (that contains XML with line 2 contains xmlns="http://schemas.solarwinds.com/2007/08/APM" ) or something else entirely? If it is a .apm_template you can import it into Orion APM on the Manage Application Monitor Templates page.

No they did not Should I add the name space that you suggest? Will that work?

No, adding that name space will not work. That was just a way to identify that what they had sent was an APM Template export.

The next logical question is what exactly did they send you? Since XML is not really meant to be executable I'm not sure what it would be. Could you provide a sample or more information?

Yes I'm being asked to monitor a website, The return I believe is an xml file. Hope I have not confused any one. Here is what they want or need. I'm having difficulty trying to produce.

The APM monitor should go out and log into the website, process the request for a policy(insurance company here) then the result should be a retrieval of a policy. If during the course there is some disruption or time out where it cannot get the requested policy Send an alert due to some sort of time out.

Hope this makes sense.

do you get policy right after log-in or do you need to do some action after log-in to get it?

If you get policy right after login, you can use "HTTP Form Login Monitor". Look at how to set it up in documentation here. You can specify regular expression/keywords to look for after successful login. Just set monitor to log in using some credential and test for specified XML or just policy number.

If you need to do some actions after login, you can try to write custom windows script to do this task. You can read how to use windows scripts here.
