OWA monitoring problem

Hi, I've to monitor OWA via APM and as suggested in Thwack trying to use "HTTP Form Login Monitor" for this purpose. But no matter what credential I put, the status I am getting is "Testing on node EXCFE01: failed with 'Undefined' status The remote server returned an error: (401) Unauthorized." Also referred to the more information page of this component but could not figure out the problem. Will appreciate if any of you can help. Many Thanks,Abdul Wahab

Hello Abdul,
I tried monitor on one testing site and I was kind of able to reproduce your error.

Our testing site uses combined authentication mechanism. At first it tries to use NTLM authentication so if your windows account has access to application, you don't have to use login form. If NTML fails, login form is displayed.

However NTLM "try and fail" means that server gives you 401 error (authentication failed) before it displays form. I get the same error as you do in this case. But if I use URL that has no NTLM authentication enabled, I can use form login monitor without problems.

Check that you don't have NTLM enabled in OWA website settings. If you have, try to turn it off and then test APM monitor.

Are you using forms based authentication with OWA or are you using Windows integrated authentication? The type of monitor you use will differ based on your authentication method.

Also, have you specified your domain in your user credentials? I.E. "username\domain" or "username@domain.ext"?

Hello Abdul,

don't you have also certificate based authentication prior to form based? You can set some web application to require certificate when accessing them. This certificate can be installed in Internet Explorer so it's transparent for users but when APM tries to connect, it has no certificate so is gets 401 error. Try to access OWA site from different browser (maybe some portable Firefox) that has no certificates installed.

Thanks Jiri for replying..... I m trying to assign this monitoring template internally within our network and within our network we are not using any Certificate based authentication and its not a secure HTTP request internally. I don't know if I m feeding correct information on the required tabs.

I need to get it sorted as I have to assign this component to some of our other applications using HTTP form based authentications.
