SQL Server 2005 RAM requirements

Hi, just wondering on the RAM requiremnts for SQL Server 2005.

We have :

1 SQL Server - win 2003 stand. 64bit, SQL Server 2005 Stand, 64 bit. 4GB RAM

1 SLX Poller. Win 2003 Stand 32 bit, 4GB RAM

We have about 4000 Elements, the poller seems fine, but when checking the performance of the SQL Server, the Physical RAM is almost at max and will soon be using the page file. (Set to 6GB).

Just wondering what some people's sql server ram requirements are if they have multiple pollers and have say 10,000 elemnts. Does the ram usage of our SQL server seem right? If so, we will need more ram soon!

SQL will pretty much consume all the memory that's allocated to it. Personally, I would like a minimum of 8GB of RAM (with 6GB allocated to SQL) for 10,000 or so elements with SQL 2005/Win2003 (64/64).

Yeah, our DB size is 4GB and is using all the RAM on that machine. I think adding another 8GB should do the trick..

I'm certainly no SQL expert, but I believe it will consume a greater amount of memory than that of the actual data footprint (caching actual queries and such). With that said, over time, even a 4GB db might consume all the memory to which it's allocated. Whether or not you would see any noticeable improvement on performance by adding the additional memory is the real question. Do you suspect that you're having SQL performance issues?

To be honest, we are not having any SQL performance issues, apart from it taking up all the RAM, so the machine is a bit slow. Our orion web is fine.

I was basically trying to plan ahead, in terms of RAM requirements.
