NTP User Experience Monitor / Perlscript?

I just wrote an ntp monitoring script, but when I try to assign it as a user experience monitor to our ntp servers (by placing a check in the two boxes) and press send it states "Please select at least one node." obviously implying that no nodes were selected. Also when trying to test against the two servers, both of them are unable to be highlighted.

And when testing it from cmd or an sshd server, the ntp server fails to send back the response.

I tested the script with an ntp server on my home network and us.pool.ntp.org, and it works fine, but I attach it anyway if you think it might have something to do with script. Really lost as to why it's not working, so any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Found a somewhat lengthy workaround. If perlscripts don't work for you and you can't/don't want to re-write the exact script completley in vbscript.

Save the perl scripts to the server and then write a vbscript which will execute the perl scripts in cmd and set echos/status based on the output of the perl scripts. (attachment is .vbs which I used with two perl scripts)

Does anyone else have an ntp server monitored by a user experience monitor?

I'm not sure what exactly are you doing. Can you please provide more information?

- What monitor do you use? Is it Linux script monitor, Windows script monitor, ...?

- How are you assigning it to nodes? Do you create application with that monitor and then try to assign it to nodes?

- Can you post the script here? Fact that it works on your home network for us.pool.ntp.org but not in company can mean that your servers may have some features disabled, some network policy may prevent them to respond or firewall can be active.

I am using a Linux/Unix Script Monitor with the script attached to the first post. I've tried both creating the monitor and then assigning it to our NTP servers, and just testing it with the NTP servers, but when you checkbox the two NTP servers and press next (when assigning), it says I didn't select anything, and I am unable to highlight them at all when using "test node".

I was thinking it was most likely a problem with our servers/firewall, but wondering if it could be anything else, and if not how/in what order would your recommend going about testing what the problem with the NTP servers could be?

Issue with selecting servers in APM seems to be a bug. Can you please post here a screenshot of selection dialog for testing with those two servers? Don't they for example contain some non-standard characters in name?

Regarding that script itself, it seems OK to me but I noticed that you have $HOST="us.pool.ntp.org" set in it. You should replace it with "$HOST=${IP}" so it uses target node IP. This may be cause why it is not working for you. Response from public NTP server may be blocked on your network.

Sorry, meant the script is working on this network as well with the public "us.pool.ntp.org", just not with our ntp server.

I just noticed that the two servers are the only ones that have "" marks around them in SW:

Pressing them when using "test node" does nothing, and pressing select after trying to click on one of them does nothing as well.
