Determining application or server?

From what I understand is that SAM will monitor the server, hardware, services, etc. If the server goes down the application goes down. I can determine if it is the server based on performance, status, hardware. How do I determine if it is the application?

The application components monitored on that server will reflect a meaningful status such as "warning", "critical", "down", etc. so you will know when issues are occurring with your applications.
