Powershell out of memory errors persist, is there a better scripting language?

Hi,

We are consistently getting out of memory errors across all pollers running powershell component monitors for sql server databases. Is there an alternative scripting language for Sql Server alerts that uses less memory than powershell? Is it possible to use node.js, perl or python for sql server in solarwinds alerts?

Hi,

We already did all of the memory configuration stuff in the blog and still get out-of-memory errors, so mgmt has asked us to revert to vbscripts. Since vbscript is obsolete, is there another scripting language other that vbscript and powershell that will work well with Solarwinds component monitors against sql server databases?

You can use vbscript, perl, Jscript and Python in SolarWinds,using the the Windows Script Monitor.

Failing that you could always script locally (on the server, DB, etc) that you are monitoring, with results being outputted to a local file. Then use a PowerShell monitor to read from this file into SolarWinds.

Set the script up to run via Scheduled Tasks, or from a DB trigger.

I found this method useful for large SQL scripts, that run for longer than an acceptable monitor timeout.

Hi,

Some of the alerts with the out of memory errors only use about 10mb of memory and return about 1k in data. The current theory here is that since more than a dozen powershell alerts run at the same time on a single node that all the memory is being used at that time. However, the memory alerts don't show this and we have code that checks the memory used by each alert and it's not much for all the alerts. I think that I'll try Jscript of Python and see if that helps.
