Unable to email

Has any gone had a problem with email "dying"? I get the following from Exchange when an alert triggers:

Event Type: Warning
Event Source: AlertingEngine
Event Category: None
Event ID: 3004
Date: 12/27/2005
Time: 11:36:19 AM
User: N/A
Computer: AN01
Description:
Was unable to send email message to Bill.Staples@msdh.state.ms.us Error Detail - Could not access 'CDO.Message' object.

I had this problem, turned out that the problem meant the email client couldn't look up the host name of the smtp server (didn't have dns configured)
