User Rights to Change Their Own Password

Is there a way to allow Orion website users to reset their own passwords? I made a custom menu bar that contacted the "Reset Password" item, but when they click on it, it says that only admins have this access. This seems crazy that a user wouldn't be able to change their own password.

Orion's "pass-through" authentication feature works like this:

IIS performs Integrated Windows Authentication on the user. Generally this means AD/Kerberos, though it can also be a local windows account on the web server. Orion then takes the name of the authenticated user (in "domain\username" format) and looks for an Orion database account with the same name. If one is found, the user is logged in to the Orion website using that account. Otherwise they get the Orion login page and have the option of typing in an Orion username and password.

Only someone with Admin. rights may reset passwords. You might consider using Pass-through http://www.solarwinds.com/NetPerfMon/SolarWinds/OrionAdministratorGuide.1.353.htm

We need out users to be able to change their passwords, I am not going to make them all admins just for this feature. Correct me if I am wrong here but this feature used to work in a previous version of NPM I believe. We are on version 9.1.

Also the pass-through authentication won't work either because our users are required to change their domain passwords every 30 days. How would their Solarwinds web account get changed to match up with the new domain password? Or am I not understanding this correctly?

Use the word, "password" in the password field and it will automatically pull their AD username/password.

Actually AD pass-through authentication works no matter what password you give a domain user when creating the account in Orion.

That seems pretty counter-intuitive to me. It worked fine for us all the way through version 9.0 were a user could change their own password. Not having the ability really is not acceptable since most of our users are outside customers that do not have access to our domain.

Yes. We did lose that functionality. We are going to correct it.

Cool. Do you know if it is planned for a service pack or will it wait for an upgrade?

one of my guys deleted the "reset password" option from the menu and I cant get it back.

can anyone tell me how to get it back? what the url is etc?

Just edit the MENU BAR you're working with and add a newer entry for resetting password.
