How can I know that inheritance has been broken?

Let's say I created 5 applications with a template and 6 months later I need to make a change to the template. I am not sure whether any of the applications have been edited since their original creation, so is there any way to know which applications will get the change other than looking at each one in turn? Is there a field in the database that flags applications that have been edited and therefore have had their inheritance connection to the template severed?

This information is available in the database. I posted some example reports in the Content Sharing Zone that should help get you started.

Thanks alterego. Looking at these two reports it looks to me that the first one will show any report that has been edited in any way (e.g. some aspect of a component such as a threshold or a query has been changed), while the second one shows applications that have only had their credential changed from the original template?

Correct, first one shows settings which are not inherited from template. There are 2 possible reasons: 1) setting from template has been overridden on application level, 2) application is not based on template (typical for applications created directly from "find processes..." wizard).

Second report is filtered just to credentials.

alterego, I tried the first report using an application that had just been assigned to a server. I ran the report immediately after assigning the template to the server expecting the report to list NO components. However, the report listed every component in the application as if the inheritance had been broken.

I then edited application which should have broken the inheritance, and the report content is unchanged.

Ideas?

The 1st Report shows all component monitor settings that are not inheriting from the template. It's likely the credentials field "__CredentialSetId" is what's being reported as not matching. That would be normal since the Template likely doesn't have any credentials assigned, but the application as it's assigned to a node does.

That makes sense, so I tested this on my system. In the screenshot, the components with a Value=10 are those in an application that did not have credentials embedded in the template before the application was created. The components with Value= -3 were created using an IIS template that first had the credential embedded and then inherited when creating the application. At the very least, the components should not even appear on this report. Right?

Also, I need a report that show if ANYTHING about an application has changed from the original template, not just credentials. The idea is to be able to run this report in the future prior to changing a template so I will know what applications will and will NOT inherit the changes I make to a template.

Am I still missing something?

Hi alterego, I'm re-visiting this thread. Let me ask my original question in a different way.

What would the SQL look like to display a report showing a list of each application with its list of components, but include a filter to show only those applications that have at least one component that has "override template" selected?
