Help in creating alerts from custom UD Poller.

Hi there

I am starting to turn grey with this one. I have cerated a custom universal device poller to monitor mulitple psu's on a cisco7200 and have successfully imported in the web console as per the snap below.

What I now need is to be able to create an advanced alert triggered by a condition change in the status of the psu.

I have created the following trigger conditions which use the same values as the enumeration mapping values. Would this be correct? I did create a complex condition that reflects the status above named 'Shutdown' which did send a blank email to my inbox for test purposes only.

And finally - this is the issue cracking me up. I am trying to create the alert text but not having much luck. How can i translate what is being polled into message of the email alert using variables. I am not that hot on SQL and any attempts I have made just produce meaningless garbage. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for the repsonse Yan.

I have changed my trigger conditions as per your config above and have finally implemented the correct variables.

I was using the variable named ${CustomPollerStatus.Status} to show the results but the thing what threw me was that when firing off a test alert it would only display the status of 1 of the power supplys and not both of them i.e. NORMAL.

But whenever I enabled the alert and let it poll the box on its own it returned the correct value for the two psu's - strange.

All sorted now.

Hi,

You can modify the Trigger Condition to what I specified in the screenshot and see if that helps.

Concerning the Variable, ${CustomPollerStatus.Status} might be what you are looking for. If it returns too many values, You should try to define a SQL Variable when you insert a variable and add some filters in the SQL Query to e.g. filter on the ${NodeID} or ${NodeName}.

Quick question about this. How do you determine what the status values are for the status condition? Is this something defined in the MIB?

Yes. When you create/edit your UnDP, if you expand the "Show Advanced Options" section, you can map the values returned by the device to the definition contained in the MIB by clicking on Map Values.

The poller will then store the Text instead of the raw value.
