Monitor interface without statistics collection?

I have several switches connected over long range fibers and everything is monitored by Orion. I have a summary page displaying, among other things, Top 15 interfaces by traffic. My problem is in high traffic situations, both ends of a link show up in the top 15 thus pushing down other interfaces. So far my only solution to this is to unmanage one end of a link making only one end of a link show up in the top 15, this however makes the link half green in the maps when a link goes down.

Cosmetic I know but annoying. Is there a way to stop statistics (traffic/packet monitoring) on an interface and still monitor interface status?

Another option you have would be to filter the interfaces out of the Top 15 Interfaces by Traffic view. If you log in as admin (or an account with permission to customize views, you can click the Edit button next to the Help button in the top left hand corner of the table. In the Edit page that comes up, the last text box is labeled Filter Interfaces. The catch is getting the SQL query right to edit out the interfaces. Below the submit button, there is a plus button that will show examples of filters. Once you expand that, at the bottom of the examples there will be two more plus buttons that will expand to show the list of node and interface properties that you can use to set your filters against. I'm probably not the best person to tell you how to filter out your interfaces but it will be something like InterfaceName <> "the name of the interface you want to exclude from the table" OR InterfaceName <> "next interface name you want excluded" etc.

I'm not sure that I've ever been able to get an OR statement to work. If you can't get the OR statement to work for the interfaces you want to exclude, you could create a custom property and assign it to each interface you want excluded from the table. A simple check box custom property filter would look like this: InterfaceCustomPropertyName=True.

You can add the interface but not the pollers for Interface Traffic Charts and Interface Error Charts this will provide the status of the interface i.e. up/down/warning but will not collect any statistics.

If the interfaces are already added then by re listing the nodes resources the interface pollers can be removed,
