I am looking at upgrading from v7.8.5 to v8.1. Our current database is around 40GB in size and sits on a separate SQL cluster. I was looking at formulating a plan to best handle this conversion.
One of my concerns is that the SQL cluster were the database resides has several other production databases that reside on the same cluster. The cluster disk storage is EMC SAN however I am concerned that the other databases will take a performance hit during the Orion database conversion process.
Does anybody else have experience with doing the Orion database conversion on a SQL cluster that has other production databases on it? Did they take a performance hit during the conversion process?
During this process I have a brand new Server that I am going to install Orion on. One question I have is if I copy the .mdf and .ldf files over to this new server can I run the database conversion on this new server (recognizing the disk storage requirements) if I do not have SQL server installed on this new server? Basically I would copy the files over to the new Orion server run the database conversion and then copy the database files back to the SQL cluster. Does this make sense?
Thanks,
