Update port descriptions based on vlan

I'm kinda new to NCM, and i see that there is a config change template to up change vlan based on description but i'm looking to do the opposite.

i want to add the following lines to any port in vlan 7

 description wireless
 energywise importance 75
 energywise keywords wireless,co_wireless,co
 spanning-tree portfast

and i'm not sure how to do that.

The process of making bulk configuration changes to switches via NCM includes the exact commands you'd enter from the command line.  The process is:

1.  (From the actual NCM server's desktop, as opposed to doing this via NCM's web interface) Select the switches to be changed in NCM by clicking on them with the Ctrl Key held down.

2.  When they're all selected/highlighted, right click on one of them and choose Execute Command Script

3.  In the upper window you'll see all the devices you selected.  If you plan on changing the same thing in each one, proceed.  If you're not changing the exact thing on every one (including every port you're going to change), remove the devices that will not be identically configured, and do them separately.  An example might be where all but one of your devices are 48-port switches, and that one odd switch is only a 24-port switch.  It will not be efficient to tell NCM to try to change ports 25-48 on a 24-port switch.  The same goes for switches with different interface names (e.g. fa0/1 vs gi1/0/1).  If you build your script for int range "int range gi1/0/21-25", and some switches only have "int range fa0/21-25", the changes will fail because the interface names are different on the switches.  You get the idea.

4.  In the lower window, key in the exact commands you need to run, including "conf t" on a line by itself, and the interface ID's or ranges of ID's, just like you'd do it from the CLI on a specific switch.  End with an "end" command.

5.  When all your commands are in place, make sure they all have carriage returns after each one.  It's easy to forget to put in a carriage return on the last line, so the change process for all switches will hang at that spot and that line will not be applied.

6.  If you're confident the commands are correct, you may wish to add a "write mem" command at the end--remember to insert the carriage return after it, to make it take effect.

7.  At the bottom left of this window, click the "Execute Command Script" button.

Test it with a simple / safe script, like

show clock

If it works, you've proven NCM can do bulk config changes.  The rest lies in your ability to correctly build the script.

You can save the script, or load other scripts you created & saved previously.  You can even run this as a job, once the scripts are built, and have it happen after hours when you're asleep.  Make sure the commands are accurate, or you'll be receiving calls from the Help Desk, Users, your Boss, his Boss, etc.

Saving your script is a good idea, in case you ever want to look at what you did (to find what was successful, or what caused problems), or if you want to use it again, or tweak it for something different.
