Question: APM Polling Interval and Alerts

Facts:

An APM Template is set to poll every 300 seconds (5 Minutes)
This same template has a Windows Service Monitor
There is an Alert that checks the status of the monitor for it being in a down state every minute

Question:

1) If that service goes into a down state, it could take upwards of 5 minutes for the trigger action to fire. Is this true?
2) If that service goes from a down state to an up state, it could take upwards of 5 minutes for the reset action to fire. Is this true?

That is correct. In a worst case scenario where an application was just polled successfully and found to be in an up/running state, then immediately stopped right after being polled the process or service would not be polled again for another 5 minutes for status. You can of course adjust polling frequencies on an per-application basis to as frequent as once every minute as needed for critical applications where five minute polling may not be sufficient.

If we are thinking about worst case, it may take up to 6 min in this case (5 min polling frequency + 1 min alert check frequency) plus there may be some additional delay on processing (polling itself takes some time and then polled data need to get written to database) but this should be few seconds on well performing system.
