Web Console Setup

I am sure there is a simple solution to this but I can't find it. I've had NCM installed for awhile now but didn't have IIS installed on the server to begin with. I just installed IIS on my NCM server so that I can use the web console. I reran the configuration wizard to configure the web portion of NMC. When I try to go to the url for the server:port, the browser shows the error "Service Unavailable". I am guessing this has something to do with one of the NCM services not being started. Do I need to restart something or is there some other configuration piece that I missed?

Hi,

The issue is probably due the web console configuration in IIS itself and notcaused by one of the NCM Services.

You can try the below steps to solve the issue.

1) Try to restart the web console and try then to browse it.

Start > Run > inetmgr + ok

Right-Click on SolarWinds Orion Network Configuration Manager and select Stop, then Start.

Right-Click on it again and select Browse.

2) If that does not work, restart IIS.

In the IIS manager, right-click on the computer > All Tasks > Restart IIS...

3) Check the Events in the Application, Security and System logs.

4) Review the \Program Files\Solarwinds\Configuration Management\ConfigurationWizard.log files to check if there are any errors.

5) Empty the \Inetpub\SolarwindsNCM\ folder and re-run the web console portion of the configuration wizard.

6) Open a support ticket and send the diagnostics (\Program Files\Solarwinds\ConfigurationManagement\SolarwindsDiagnostics)

OK, I'm getting closer. It turns out that there was something going on with the services that are running on the server. I reinstalled the web portion of NCM and now can get to a web page. Now I get the following error when I go to the url of the web page:

Login Failure

The Account and Password you provided are either incorrect or have insufficient privileges to log into the Orion Network Configuration Manager website. Please try again.

Additional Input Required

Account:
Password:

The problem is that it never prompts me for a username or password and I cannot get to a point where I get prompted for a username/password. It almost seems like the default web page file (Default.aspx) is not correct. Is there a setting within NCM or InetMgr that I need to be looking at?

I am getting the feeling that this has something to do with the Default.aspx file in the root directory of the web instance. When I look through the code of this file, I can see where the error that I placed in my previous post occurs. It looks like it fails to load the actual login page. This cannot be right. I found one other error in the file already through trial and error. Can someone supply me with a Default.aspx file that actually works? BTW, I have opened a ticket on this as well.
