Could somebody help me in the below:

We are having one APE and another Main Server. Some nodes are being assigned to APE. In case the APE goes down do the Main Poller will poll automatically. If no, can we set an alert with action to change the APE.

This is the link to the Orion SDK wiki where they show an example of setting a node property using powershell.  Moving a node to another engine just requires you to set the engineid to the poller that is still up.  I suspect if you dig around on thwack you might find examples of complete scripts that people have written to set various node properties.

No, in a standard scenario the APE goes down and all data collection stops for the nodes assigned to it.

There is no built in function to roll nodes to another polling engine, but in concept it could be made to happen with a script and the API launched from an alert action.
