The foundation of our network and device monitoring is SolarWinds NPM. We are monitoring as many devices as we possibly can within the model of our customer agreements. However, there are always a few devices that, for whatever reason, we cannot get direct access to (whether VPN or NAT'd external IP) that we want to monitor, but can't.
I know that NPM is agentless -- and I know that for many of us that is a love/hate relationship. As we aren't going to drop SolarWinds just to satisfy a few servers, I'm wondering if anyone has found a product that provides agent-based server monitoring that they've been able to integrate with NPM (via alerts, etc.)
I'd be interested in lots of different ideas, as wild or wacky as they may seem. Trying to provide some technical direction to our operations team and I'm running up against the same old "need a VPN or NAT'd IP address" rhetoric.
Thanks,
Josh
