SQL Database Count in View Resource

My client wants to receive a weekly count of the number of databases on an instance on a View I'm working to create.

Before I go Googling, has anyone done this already and could share?

I suspect I need a SQL PowerShell script to get a count and display the statistic in a table view.

Take a look at the out of the box "Database Status" report, you can just mimic that in a custom table resouce, here's a screenshot of one I did real quick

Here's the important change to the report (change the name for the DB to count and then it will just display the number of DB's)

Found a script, just need to figure out how to package it up right.

$instancepath="E:\health\SQL_Server\config\instances_all.txt"

$dt = new-object "System.Data.DataTable"

foreach ($instance in get-content $instancepath)

$instance

$cn = new-object System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection "server=$instance;database=master;Integrated Security=sspi"

$cn.Open()

$sql = $cn.CreateCommand()

$sql.CommandText = "select count(*) from sys.databases"

$rdr = $sql.ExecuteReader()

$dt.Load($rdr)

$cn.Close()
