NCM Import Node Group

Very new to NCM and trying to import from NPM using the canned import job in NCM. Everything comes in ok but I cannot get Node Groups to import so I end up with each device creating it's own node group. When editing the import job there is no column in the data base that shows my Node groups.

Might there be a chance the groups are there, but that you're just not seeing them due to a Node List Grouping setting? You can test for this by going to File/Settings and then selecting the top left option called Node List.

On the top right is a pull-down menu, by which you can select from about 20 various parameters for grouping your nodes.

I have NCM managing nodes from multiple vendors, so I choose the Vendor option to group them for display.

You might find good grouping by choosing the Node Group, or System Location, or OS Version options, or customize one for your unique organization. One way to easily do a customization is to populate a field on the switch or router that is labeled for something you don't feel is important. For example, the System Contact field might have information you don't need. Simply add a grouping word in the Contact field on each device you wish to have grouped together, and then rediscover the node with NCM.

Finally, display the groups by going to File/Settings and choosing System Contact as the group setting.

Thanks for the reply. We track our sites in NPM by site code which is a custom propriety field. When we check what NCM was importing we saw the custom propriety fields were not check. Everything is imported now.
