I have SAM installed on a physical server. Would there be alright installing Additional Polling Engines on a VM or would it be best to installl the APE on physical server?
IM(ns)HO you can go virtual on all the polling engines. The only server that "needs" to be physical (and it's up for debate) is the database server. Which should be separate from the polling engine.
So sure thing. Go virtual. Just make sure you give it a decent amount of resources (ours have 8CPU and 12Gb RAM)
we're running fully on a VM environment for the DB and SW servers. DB servers are resource hungry, so expect to put more CPU's and RAM. As for the web server (primary poller), put at least a 4 CPU and 8GB of RAM; irony is, when there is a lot of request, the IIS services would be the resource hogger.
