Unable to run multiple, simultaneous vbscript monitors

Hi,

We are using vbscripts for HTTP User Experience monitors. These scripts retrieve statistics on the time taken to perform a search using set criteria.

The monitor works fine when we only run one. If we run multiple monitors from APM they will work fine for a period.

At least one of the scripts will then fail to undertake the searches after a period of several hours.

Has anyone else had a similar experience. We are running SW APM on server 2008.

Update - This issue has been resolved since upgrading to Orion version 10.0 and APM version 3.5

Hello Paul,
how many scripts do you run simultaneously? There is known issue with Windows scripting host when it is unable to run more scripts if it reaches some limit. However this limit is in hundreds of simultaneous scripts.

Maybe you use some global object (COM, ActiveX) in your script that has some limit?

We are only running 2 VB scripts and we are utilising the Com+ method of instantiating Internet Explorer. I have ruled out timeouts, as when we run the scripts, simultaneously and manually over and over again from the command prompt we do not see any of the problems that we see when we trigger the script from within SolarWinds. From the script behaviour it seems as though the ‘Close’ command one of the scripts, closes down the wrong version of Internet Explorer and therefore causes the crash.

Can you please post script or part of it here so other users can see what you do and if there are any errors?

Hi Jiri,

I've been in touch with the developer of the script.

They think that the script should be capable of running in multiple simultaneous instances.

I'll therfore open a support ticket for this issue.
