Network Performance Monitor (NPM)
Changing Bandwidth Values
danbowen
Hi Everyone,
I use SW to monitor a lot of WAN connections, but as we do not have SNMP access to the WAN routers, we monitor the switch interface that connects to that router. As the switch interface speed is either 100 or 10mb, and the WAN speed is anything between 128kbps and 34mb, we get misleading utilization percentages.
Any idea on how you can force SW to believe that a 100mb interface is say 4mb?
Cheers,
Dan

You can change the bandwidth on the switchport. Be careful as changing the bandwidth statement can/will affect your routing.
ACCESS41(config)#int fa0/48
ACCESS41(config-if)#bandwidth ?

You should be able to set an arbitrary speed on each interface in the System Manager. You can modify the transmit and receive speeds independently if need be.

I believe you would do this on a per interface basis. In the system manager, right click on the interface you want to edit. At the top, you have transmit and receive bandwidths you can adjust.
Does that work for you?
Larry.
