Setting up templates using "Find Processes, Services..."

Hi All -

This is probably a basic question, but I've been looking for the answer all day.

I am attempting to make templates for some of the servers in my company's domain, and I'm using the "Find Processes, Services, and Performance Counters" under APM settings to set up custom templates.

If finds the running processes, and I get to the point where I'm setting the thresholds.

However, the only thing I want to monitor at this point is UP/DOWN status of each the processes in the template. I can't for the life of me figure out how to do this basic operation using the APM. Is this even possible?

Please if you could point me to the right direction that would be great!!

Hello Jason,
UP/DOWN status is always monitored by APM. Thresholds are there just to allow you to set more levels of notifications. If you need only UP/DOWN info, just set the thresholds to some high values (100% for CPU, 99999 for memory). APM will still collect performance data but your processes will be just UP or DOWN. It this what you need?

you want to be able to just do up/down rather than collect performance stats?

I had a long discussion on here with SW about this same thing and they took it internal, so i am hoping it will come in a future release...

Yea, I want just basic up/down status for these services for now.

I think this is a more basic function than collecting stats, and I'm floored this isn't an option as of now.

I have orion 8.5 and it had this function. Interesting.

Ok so after a lot of searching, I'm still not finding my answer, and now I'm pretty sure this isn't possible.

That being scanning the machine for running processes, create a template based on them, and monitor these processes based on up/down status, not some threshold for memory, virtual memory, CPU utilization.

Orion 8.5 would monitor each process for up/down status, however I don't believe it had templates. Here I'm thinking templates make the world so much easier!

I have a call with one of their engineers tomorrow and if this is possible, I'll let you all know in case you're curious.
