Has anyone ever noticed how you cannot search for a device or hostname in NCM? I did about 18 months ago logged a fault and was told it would be address. Still not though.
Does anyone else have this issue?
My response was with the new Search in the 6.1 Web Integration module. It searches not only nodes but also keywords in config.
If the Win32 app is a must have requirement, are you experiencing issue with the 3 Edit/Find features? (Find Mac, Find Ip and Find Hostname)
Note that the Win32 Find Address / Hostname does not really search for the hostname in the NCM database, but rather tries to find connected devices (it is similar to teh Web function "Find Connected...").
The basic Search for node feature that you are looking for is available only in 6.1 in the Integration Web interface, see snapshot pointed above.
You need to have a valid network discovery data in place before you can search for devices using NCM. That is when it builds the database for connected devices. When I search for a device on a subnet that I don't scan I get this error:
"Before you can view port mappings for this device, you must first use Network Discovery to properly add the device to the Orion database."
Basically, if you manually added the device into Orion, you'll need to have it added via Network Discovery.
I am not sure how you are even searching for a device. there is no option I can see to even just search for a device by name in NCM, either via the thick aplication or the web browser interface.
The "Find Connected Port" feature of NCM is available if you install the NPM-NCM Integration. When this is installed, you should see a resource with a search field (see below image).
If you are interesting in advanced device tracking, I recommend reading this blog post that explains the various solutions we have for these use cases.
Perhaps my original message was unclear. About to open yet another call with Solarwinds on this issue. Basically in NCM there is a list of devices sorted into groups but there is NO apparent way to just search for a particular devcei based on name or IP address.
I am not interested in finding what is connected to what as part of this post. Sorry but I am getting a little frustrated by Solarwinds.
