Not able to do the Backup.

Hi All,

I am new to Solarwinds tool.Recently we have added our Network Devices into Solar winds.I am using NCM 7.1.

Now I am trying to take the backup manually from those devices.

But for some devices, I am getting the below error,

1)Cannot Log into Device:Bad Password

2)Connection refused by Host

Kindly help me on this errors to get the back up for those devices please.

Hello,

You need to setup the global login defaults so NCM knows how to connect to them. This is found under settings-NCM settings->Global Device Defaults.

Individual nodes can over-ride the global settings by editing the nodes and changing them there. If you set the global user/password and transfer protocol then you should be able to start getting the configs. The NCM Admin guide will also show the instructions for all the features of NCM.

Actually we have already done those settings.Few devices I can able to take the back up.

But for some devices only, I am getting the above error.

Especially for some cisco devices , I am getting the error as Connection refused by Host.

Please tell me , why i am getting this errors.

TCTSL,

Connection refused by host usually means you are using ssh and the node is expecting telnet, or vice versa. I would make sure you can connect with a session directly from the Orion server. Could be that there is an ACL that is blocking the Orion connection. Under NCM - Advanced setting you can also run a session trace to help troubleshoot the issue.

I tried to change the communication settings from individual node.

In the request configs & Transfer configs tab, I can see there r few options like Telnet,SSH1,SSH2,SSH auto.SNMP

Can you tell me what is the difference between SSH1,SSH2,SSH auto,SNMP.Is this something we need to change.Because for the problem causing devices,i can see this settings is SSH2 which is been took automatically by those devices.

For some devices , i can able to succesfully take the back up,for those devices this settings are,

Request configs using: ${GlobalConfigRequestProtocol)

Transfer Configs using: ${GlobalConfigTransferProtocol)
These all r automatically populated while we discovered this devices.

Kindly advice me on this.
