Question

Can I please get a straight answer to a very puzzling question?  Do I have to enable monitoring in NPM of  ALL PORTS on all switches to get the same level of user tracking in NCM as I do with Ciscoworks?

I would really like to be rid og Ciscoworks, but I can't get rid of it until NCP/NPM can fully take it's place.

So, if a computer is on a switchport, and the switch is managed by NPM (but not all interfaces, including the one the computer is connected to) and the switch is in NCM.  The user Tracking feature will find that computer's IP address?

If so, how is this done....does the NCM module do a hostfind each night like Ciscoworks does?

No you do not need to manage/monitor all device interfaces in NPM to get the user tracking abilities in NCM. The node simply needs to be manage in NPM and NCM but you don't necessarily need to manage/monitor any interfaces in NPM.
