Alerting Variable Errors

Hi There,

It's my first post so please be gentle

I've imported all the inventory etc and set up alerting. Alerting works fine, apart from the following:

${ApplicationName} on kbox1100 is ${ApplicationStatus}

I've re-installed and even created a new DB (SQL 2008 R2).

I had SAM in demo mode using a local SQL DB and it was working great. Now the only variable I can get to return correctly is ${NodeName}.

Please help!

Spoke with Tech Support - answer was that I didn't have any Applications added to the nodes so they weren't reporting on component status'. I've since added the standard Windows apps and all seems fine now.

Can you post a screenshot of the Trigger Condition as it's defined in the Advanced Alert Manager? The issue you're having is likely related to what's selected as the "Type of Property to Monitor". Only certain macros are available based on what's being monitored. For example, Volume macros aren't available when the property monitored as part of the trigger condition is an APM:Application or APM:Component.

Sure, here you go. It's just the standard "Alert me when a component goes into warning or critical".

Is the email, is it plain or html? In html, sometimes you need "@ instead of a {" or "}", but I think that is only with nested variables. Have you tried using the "Insert Variable" button? it takes away the guessing (like is "${NodeName}" also "$(Node.Caption}" or "$(Node.Name}"? It only inserts into the body of the email, but you can cut and paste it out of there and into the subject line
