I had a bunch of templates deployed across an Exchange 2007 installation and they were logging away nicely. Some components were SNMP, some WMI and some PerfMon . For apparently no reason and at the same time some of the PerfMon templates started returning “Bad Component” messages. The templates and Local Admin credentials were deployed across the servers as standard and other templates on other servers continued to work. Templates with same-type components to those servers continue to work and so did the same templates to other servers.
I removed the failing templates from these servers (as they were raising alerts and annoying our NOC) and have re-tested them against a variety of servers, but the templates to these few servers now just fail with a “Bad Component” error.
There are no events on the Exchange servers to account for the abrupt change, Exchange continues to function and no changes were made to Orion at that the time.
How can this be possible? Any ideas on where to start? Thanks.
