Advanced Alerts Bug!

I'm currently running version 8.0.2 and recently discovered that the advanced alerts that I've configured does not work on Sunday even though all 7 days are selected.

Another issue is that the alert does not work when I have an alert with only Mon-Fri selected - Sunday must be selected in order for it to work.

Anyone else ran to the same issue?

Tech support has confirmed that this is a bug and will be corrected in release 8.1 in late spring or early summer. To me this is unacceptable - Solarwinds should be working on releasing a patch for this. They expects me to wait weeks/months for v8.1 while not knowing whether my systems are down because I'm not being alerted. I might as well turn off the alerting altogether.

I do agree this is a major bug, but since the old Alerting tool still does the job, I guess SW feels it is not critical.
The new alert manager is certainly more versatile and should no longer be considered a beta app.
Now everyone must either cross their fingers nothing goes down on Sunday, or replicate all their alerts using the old Alerting tool.

I wish I could say I feel your pain, but I'm still running V7.8.
I generally wait at least 6 months after a major release of any software before considering an "upgrade".
If not for the brave souls like yourself, where would we be?
I thank all those like you for forging ahead and breaking new ground for the rest of us.

We have the same problem of no alerts on Sundays, but we're still running 7.8.5.

Thanks, but I'm not that brave - v8.0.2 is in our lab environment. I'm still running v7.8.1 in our production.

Found new bug - Escalation!

Escalation does not work properly.

Simple node down

trigger condition - do not trigger this alert until the trigger condition exists for 5 minutes.

trigger actions
#1 (email) - execute this action repeatedy every 2 minutes while the alert is triggered

#2 (email) - if the alert is still triggered after 10 mintues then execute this action.

The above configurations works fine but when I remove the "execute this action repeatedly every 2 minutes while the alert is triggered" in the #1 trigger actions, it would cause #2 to not function. I would only get the trigger action #1 (mail).

Further testing and I discovered another bug with advanced alert.

The alert will not trigger on any current day if the previous day is not part of the configuration.

For example...
You have an alert set for Monday to Friday during business hours (8am-6pm). Being today is Wednesday, if you remove Tuesday from your configuration the alert will not trigger.

Has anyone heard anything on the whole Sunday bug thing? There's no way I'm going to use this as my production alerting system until this is fixed.

I know development is aware of the issue and the fix should be included in 8.1 but I haven't received word if this will be released as a hotfix for 8.0.2.

FYI - Looks like 8.1 is going into external beta testing soon.

There are some known bugs around days of the week. These bugs are going to be fixed in 8.1, which is due fairly soon.

Sorry to be vague, but we're not quite ready to set a date.

I am having a similar issue with advanced alerts. They sometimes only send the reset email, but do not send the alert email that triggered the reset in the firsat place. After detailed accounting and troubleshooting with the alerts, and sending all the info I could possible gather to support, the response was to use basic alerts. So two questions, 1. What is the point of having a "feature" that doesn't function properly? 2. Does anyone know of a better application to monitor networks? I am currently looking for a replacement product and will gladly test anything that actually works. I am open to suggestions. Thanks!

Hi.

To fill up the bug-list I have some issues...

There's quite many macros that don't work in "Advanced Alerts", like ${DNS} for example.

Our nordic letters "öäæøå" doesn't work in "Advanced Alerts" for the "Trigger actions" (works fine in Basic Alerts). The letters are converted to "?"-marks.

SQL Statements like:
${SQL:Select DNS from Nodes where NodeID=${NodeID}} doesn't work, but ${NodeID} works!

I've just upgraded to version 8.1. The bugs that I've experienced with Advanced Alert have been corrected. However, I cannot say the same for the Basic Alert - it has stop working altogether.
