Microsoft SQL Web data administration
marcoslongo
I was curious to see what could be the
alternatives
to node editing / custom property eding using current system manager.
Could not find any easy one, but as SQL dummy I didn't knew about
SQL Server Web Data Administrator
, that is a free download on MS, just google for it.
Make it work wasn't easy on my
Server 2003
. First, the Cassini light server didn't worked, so I choose
IIS
instead, altough this could have been related to authentication as you will see below.
Second, make sure you have
ASP.NET
installed as windows component or else IIS will fail to serve dynamic content.
Third, edit
Web.config
to change the security option to authorization as you need, default anonymous won't work!
I did 'allow any' ...
You will also need to disable anonymous access in the Virtual directory webadmin. Because if you do not the application will run with default privileges and will not log you in.
So you end with double athentication but I think one can work around this, configure the IIS website, map anonymous as administrator or sufficiente power, this again in the IIS manager virtual directory properties.
Don't worry is the little program you run from the start menu will crash if launched more than once, the site will be working anyway.
Quite convoluted stuff, I agree, bottom line, once you manage all the bits together, this will allow you
basic operations
on the database, query, etc. The access is read only but one can modify the database structure.
Not really what I wanted in the first place... but will continue to look around....
