How SAM Capacity Forecast Chart works?

Hello guys. Do anyone know how the CPU/ Memory/ Volume Capacity Forecast works?

How dose the system calculate those forecast information? How much past history will it use for prediction?

Looks like this is more of an NPM feature rather than a SAM one and it uses up to six months of history:
