Where does ${IP} get it's info?

When setting up APM 1.0 on our Solarwinds box here, I had to add 127.0.0.1 to the website config before the Web Console - UE would go green. So now I'm curious - why would APM use localhost for the ${IP} instead the routeable IP on the box? Or is it just coincidence that the monitor started working after adding localhost to my web config?

${IP} is going to be replaced with the IP Address of the node the application is assigned to. So if Orion is monitoring NodeA on 1.2.3.4, and you create an application on NodeA with an HTTP monitor. The HTTP monitor will replace ${IP} in the url with NodeA's address (1.2.3.4).
