Interface utilization

Hi,

i have a query t regarding interface utilization. We’re wondering how does solarwinds orion NPM compute or how does it come up with its interface utilization data? we compared it using CLI commands in cisco and it produced a different result. We just want to know how do they do it because maybe solarwinds is more accurate or the other way around.

Most use some form of.

Bytes/Max Bytes * 100

If polled a T1 (1.544kBPS) every 5 minutes and got:

4000000 bytes transmitted in a 5 minute slice

57900000 MAX a T1 could have transmitted in 5 minutes

4000000/57900000 * 100 = 6.9%
