Alerting via PDA / Small TFT?

Hi,
I want to be able to put something together using either a PDA or a 7" TFT showing a web browser where the status of the monitored devices are shown.
This would basically be used so that one of these small TFT's would be placed on engineers desks and would show something like 'OK' when nothing is wrong and 'Warning' when something has a problem. Then when the engineer touches the screen they are taken directly to the problem(s).
Anyone have any suggestions?
