Is there a way I can have end users create custom reports without have to remote desktop to the Orion server? Is there a stand alone version of report writer?
thank
I haven't seen one that could be deployed to clients... this makes me think of a feature request that goes something like this:
A web interface for Report Writer that has Top level drop down boxes, that get progressively deeper into the tables similar to what is in the Advanced Alert build process, with the possibly of table joins, then before the actual report is ran have it do a mini user friendly query analysis providing tips back to the client on how to speed up there potential report. Maybe a single line preview mode so they can manipulate the format prior to running the report and not liking it's layout aswell...
I have a group of users that manage 30 or so Linux boxes. They want to create custom reports for there environment. Such as raw data for cpu utilization for the past month so they can create graphs. They are the type of group that would constantly be tweaking the reports as needs arise. For obvious reasons I don't want to give them access to the server itself.
It would be nice to have a client only version of the report writer and have an option to point it to the SQL database. That way when I get flooded with custom report request like I'm already getting with this group. I can have them install the client and they can create reports to there hearts content.
This is a good request, and it fits with the general goal of making things remote-able. Consequently, I think it'll happen. I wish I could tell you it's in the next release, but at the moment it's not. It's a candidate for the release after that.
Has anything like this been created?? We our NOCC is going to take over basic Solarwinds functions but we (Network Admins) have sensitive data on our server that we don't want to give them.
Thanks,
Isaac
