Sort Devices Alphabetically

Hi Guys,

Just got NCM up and going today, and unlike NPM i cannot sort my device list in the console

alphabetically. I know this is a bit trivial, but can someone point me in the right direction?

It is likely that your node list is sorting based on device icon. Try right-clicking in the tree list area and clicking "Select Fields and Grouping". Move Node Name so that it is first in Selected Properties list. Let me know how that works.

Hi Chris,

That is so excellent. It worked a treat. Funny tho.. i had a look there a few times and it did not really suugest that this was the method in which items in the list were ordered. Nonetheless, It's working now.

Ya, Had a similar experience with Tech Support. My response was some spurios drival not really relating tom my simple question. Not Good Enough Solarwinds.

Chris, is there anyway to have the device icon listed first but still sort by name? I really like the look of it when the device icon is before the name instead of that blue circle with the yellow X through it.

Yeah, just right click in the device list field and choose "Select Fields and Grouping". Find Vendor Icon in the left hand list, move it to the right hand list and then move it to the top of the list. or at least above the Node Name.

The problem with that is that you loose the alphabetical sorting of the node names if you do that. I want to have the icon to the left but want to still have the node names sorted properly.

Doesn't this only set it for the logged in user account? So if everyone in ecornwell's environment wanted this look and feel each end-user would need to do this. Personally I'd prefer Orion NPM version of limiting and controlling the end-user's web view.

Yes, this is only set in the desktop application for the logged user's account. Orion NPM doesn't have this problem since there is no authentication in System Manager.

I've added a request to allow alphabetical sorting by the node name even if vendor icon is listed first column. For internal folks, this is being tracked as #3260.
