Status Unknown, yet test works... ?

I have 3 script monitors that run successfully on a large number of Unix boxes that check 1) too many su to root failures, 2) too many failed logins, and 3) LVM status (metastat). But - there are a few servers where one or more of these monitors is grayed out; i.e. in and "Unknown State".

From the "Assigned Application Monitors" screen, I test the monitor and it works fine - every time, on every node that is supposedly in an unknown state. The settings are identical to the other monitors in that there are no template over-rides.

Any insight and/or suggestions welcome.

Hello Jim,
if you go to application details page with those grayed out monitors, there should be orange box next to them. If you hover over that box, you should get some error message stating why monitor is in unknown state. What does it say?

I'm looking for what you call "Applications Details Page"... not sure where you mean. Sorry, I'm a bit of a newbie... there's the summary page when I click on the Application tab. Then there's the APM settings... I don't see those orange boxes you mention.

On that summary page you can see tree of all applications. If you expand tree to application level and click specific application, you get to the Application Details page for that application. That's what I'm talking about.
