Map scaling, background size

Sorry folks, I tried to find an answer to this by searching for stuff on map scaling/resizing, but I'm not sure the answers I've found are the same thing I'm experiencing.

At one time, many versions ago, I create several maps using a campus drawing to show physical locations. I used a big background for clarity (3700x2900 pix). When I originally created these maps, they were understandably huge. I seem to recall, at the time, I found some feature in the map editor (this was prior to Atlas) that allowed me to scale down the map while I was editing it, but I didn't like the results when viewing it from the web console so I left it at 100%.

I'm not sure when something changed, but at some point along the way of the NPM getting updated, and the arrival of Atlas, and more software updates, etc..; my big campus maps were auto-scaled/resized down - similar to what other have reported only I'm not showing these map on a customized column page, I'm just launching the maps directly (going to a List of all Maps and selecting a campus map) which takes of the whole screen.

As a test, I just created a new map using another (updated) version of a campus layout background (different file name) with the same dimensions, added some objects to it, saved it with a name that was unrelated to previous campus maps, went to my list of maps, and once again it was scaled down and unreadable.

How do I stop it from doing that?

Ok, perhaps my situation is more like previous inquiries than I originally thought.

I realized if I right-clicked on the map image in the browser (firefox) and selected View Image, I got just the picture of the map with no menus as someone else stated before. On this image, the URL has a Scale=0 reference which I can change to 100. Then my mouse cursor show a (+) when floating over the image which means the image is not shown 1:1. When click on this image, it shows the full map in all of it's huge glory, except it's no long a hyperlinked map, it's just a static image, so it's obviously keeping the original size of the map/background, but it will only let you see the scaled down version within the web console.

I suppose I will look to see if I can edit the web code (as mentioned in another thread) to prevent scaling ... ?

When you edit the map resource on the web console and select the map you want to display, did you change the percentage there?

I am not attempting to display the map in a customized page when you specify the size percentage. I am trying to display a map full page. If you have the default menu system, there's an option for All Maps which gives you thumbnails. When you click on one, it take over the whole window. There's no option to specify a size when the only thing you're displaying is a map.

When I select a map from the All Maps list, Orion seems to have some built-in feature that automatically re-sizes the map down.

For example, here's a campus map which if displayed at 100% would require scrolling left/right, up/down to see the whole thing; which is what I want, but when I click to launch it, it's scaled down and unreadable...

If I right-click on this map (firefox) and select View Image, it brings up the same image by itself, no menus.

Again, it's the scaled down version. If I CTRL+MouseWheel to zoom in, you can see the image is grainy. I also noticed in the URL, it shows &Scale=0...

If I change Scale to 100 and press ENTER, I get the full version of the map the way I want it displayed in Orion, but of course this is not a live Orion map; it's just a picture of it so nothing is click-able.

As Im not seeing any good replies on your map sizing problem (and this is an OLD posting) I thought I would offer my very "non-technical" solution Ive had to use as I haven't found anything better. I found that working with the image size directly, outside of Solarwinds, was the trick. I had the same issue with a HUGE background map image which would consume the NOC view I was trying to create. I took the background image I was using and resized it in another application (yes, in my case it was paint). I then removed the background image from my map in Network Atlas and added in the new image. At that point all I had to do was move the icons I had built out to fit the new image size and viola, I found the image size that fits the page.

It feels like Network Atlas hasn't been updated since Windows 98 so I went with the easy solution. If anyone from SOlarwinds is looking at these PLEASE update Network Atlas? Theres these new machines out, MacBooks? Lots of admins are issued them and RPD'ing to the server to use this tool could use some streamlining, just my two cents of course.
