Script capture the number of instances running of a process on a VM

Does any one have a script that capture the number of instances running of a process running on a VM. Than store it in a variable to be captured by solar wind and monitored. Then used in an aleras a single or possible double trigger alert i.e. % cpu and number of processes. The script can be either be placed in SAM and component used a trigger element.

This really depends on what the operating system is as the target.  For Windows (at least recent versions), I'd defer to PowerShell:

Write-Host "Message: $( ( get-process -ComputerName ${IP} ).Count ) running process(es)"

Write-Host "Statistic: $( ( get-process -ComputerName ${$IP} ).Count )"

For Linux, I suppose you could do the same thing via ps, but that's outside my expertise.
