We are currently running NCM 7.8 on Server 2012 R2 Standard and our database is on SQL Server 2016. We would like to upgrade our NCM to Server 2016. Our VM guys will not allow us to attempt an in place upgrade. They said we need to stand up a new server. Obviously this would require us to point all of our network devices to the IP of the new server. We'd also like to install the latest version of NCM. Rather than add everything from scratch, can we simply point the new server at the old database? Will it allow us to do that? I would imagine the database would also need to be upgraded to be compatible with the latest NCM. Since our database would be running 7.8 and the new server would have 7.9, would this work? Or should we install 7.8 on the new server, get it running with the database, and then attempt to upgrade to 7.9? Has anyone attempted this?
