Can't poll Windows Server 2012 R2

(Edit 2014-06-27 2am: there was an error in the post: the OS was Windows Server 2012, and not 2012 R2. The R2 version worked without a problem, rendering the question moot.)

Just set up a WS 2012 R2 eval and can't seem to be be able to poll with Firewall on. With this:

I get this in SAM 6.1.1:

This is a fresh WS install, workgroup environment; I did have to manually change the network to "private":

Other than that, can't think of any changes to the VM.

Well I am a dork. It was a 2012 server, not R2. Once upgraded to R2, it worked out of the box.

Sorry for the trouble. The correct answers are:

WS2012 R2 can be polled out of the box by enabling remote WMI,
The OP (Original Poster) is a dork and should check OS version before posting questions like this.

A Windows Server 2008 R2 (Hyper-V VM) with virtually identical configuration is being polled just fine by SAM, and it doesn't even have to have an exemption for WMI in the firewall:

I looked at it briefly and frankly don't want to go through it. The doc doesn't return even a single result for 2012. There gotta be a simpler way to enable polling on a completely stock, fresh off-the-shelf non-domain 2012 R2 node.

Does it seem to you (as it does to me) that this is a firewall exception issue?

In the document is hint how to setup firewall exception:

If the target computer has Windows Firewall enabled, it must have a Remote

WMI exception to allow remote WMI traffic through

(http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa389286(VS.85).aspx). To add this

exception:

1. Click Start, click Run, type cmd and then press ENTER.

2. At the command prompt, type netsh firewall set service RemoteAdmin

enable, and then press ENTER.

3. At the command prompt, type exit, and then press ENTER.

If adding the firewall exception did not solve your problem, see “WMI is Still Not

Working. Now What?”

Have you tryed to setup the firewall rule using those steps?

There is also Microsoft's KB article related to Windows 2012 /R2 - Configure Remote Management in Server Manager which talks about firewall rules to enable remote management.
