IIS Cert Question

I am new to the SAM module and would like to know that if my IIS cert is expired, will it break my SAM? I mean can I still operate SAM without a cert? It is showing up red in my web console and I am in the process of renewing but wanted some feedback.

I *presume* you mean an IIS cert applied to the SolarWinds Orion webserver itself. Not an IIS cert that you are monitoring using the web certificate component monitor.

SAM should continue to collect data, store it in the db, etc. The only thing that would be impacted by an expired cert is your ability to get to the Orion portal itself - meaning you'd get the usual "cert is not valid" error and you'd have to choose to navigate to the site anyway.

Which in effect means your not secure and might as well be using HTTP - This means anytime you manually input a password into the Web UI you are passing that in clear text to DB. But functionally it makes no difference to Orion's monitoring capabilities.

Will the cert have any impact on anything else? Say for instance, setting up to be able to login automatically to the web console from windows? I just want to make sure that this cert has no other impact other than what both of you mentioned above. Thank you in advance.

Hi kange0010 I can confirm that your SSL Certificate will only impact the browser security. It will not have any impact on your Orion's monitoring capabilities.
