emailing Event Viewer log messages

I have seen a lot of templates to show up/down messages for the Event Viewer based on criteria.

Is there a way to have APM email you the exact error message instead of just up/down?

I would recommend that you look at the SolarWinds 'Log Forwarder for Windows'. This is a tool available to you via your paid maintenance for Orion from the SolarWinds Custom Portal under Additional Components on the left hand side of the page. This lets your foward your Windows Events as SysLogs into the Orion SysLog Server, retains the events for reporting and you can set up alerts for these events as they come in. You can define an email alert from here and the email can contain the contents of the event that generated the alert. The downside to this is that it doesn't forward the event ID. You have to set the alert based on the content of the event message.

"Log Forwarder for Windows can be installed on your Windows servers and will forward Windows event log messages to your Orion Syslog Server. This version replaces the old Windows Event Forwarder and adds support for Windows Vista and Windows 2008, filtering of events before forwarding, and a silent MSI installer for remote software distribution."
